Work at Height Regulations

The new regulations on working at height came into force on June 21st, 2006. Officially designated Safety, Health and Welfare (Work at Height) Regulations 2006, these rules now apply to all sectors, whereas previously they were mainly included within the Construction Regulations.

The regulations have some more specific requirements than the older ones, including requirements on scaffolding and fall protection systems.

Definitions have also been tightened up - with ‘Ladder’ now definitely applying to both fixed ladders & stepladders, and ‘Work at Height’ itself widened to include working at or below ground level where there may be a risk of falling.

For further information on these regulations, visit the Health and Safety Authority's Website. The specific page moves around a bit and can be hard to find, but it is there somewhere.
